You will write 6 reaction papers [RP]. These will be in response to the readings assigned for each week which you will read. Then look at the question for each week under the weekly schedule of course information. Look at the fourth column of the table under the heading assignments. There is a question for the RP for each week. Answer the question.
1. These reaction papers require you to integrate information taken from several weekly readings to organize that information with conclusions that may be new to you.
2. Begin with a claim or idea or a set of 1 or 2 ideas that you will explain and justify in your essay. Support your ideas with a rationale and textual evidence (not just, “I think”), logically organized throughout the essay. Your ideas and the support should be clear to the reader.
3. Select relevant material to illustrate your points and provide specific references to class readings. Do not cite, quote or reference from Wikipedia or general non-verifiable sources Your work cited page should follow the MLA format.
4. Your reaction paper should reflect proper grammar and syntax and should be formatted as per MLA style.
5. Each response will be 250 words long (1-2 pp.), double-spaced in font 12. You do not need to submit a cover page. If you quote or borrow from a source outside of your own ideas you must cite your sources by giving me a work cited page using MLA style.
6. Consult the “Paper Outline/Structure,” “Requirements,” “Common Writing Mistakes,” “Writing Aids,” & “Close Textual Reading” & “MLA Style” folders within the Assignments section of the toolbar.
7. Grades will be based on the clarity of your argument, clean diction and grammar, and textual analysis. Close textual reading is required for your paper.
8. Please your papers through the file submission button on the toolbar in response to the thread set up for it. Late submissions of a week or more will be downgraded appropriately. Very late submissions will be downgraded quite severely. This is done to respect the work of students who hand work in on time. If you have special needs or have medical and personal reasons for late work, please submit a note from your doctor, counselor, disability office, or the student dean’s office to excuse you.
